I have been slowly leaving social platforms behind. First was Facebook. It got too busy, too intrusive. I don’t even remember when I deleted my account, but it’s been more than 7 years. When the one that shall not be named bought Twitter, I left. One of my team leads once said that Twitter is where all civilized conversations go to die. And he was right. Despite who owns it, Twitter had become a place where people felt entitled to say whatever they wanted without any filter or respect. It’s exhausting. I kept Instagram because taking pictures was always my thing. So I stayed. But with time, Instagram became this black hole that sucked up my time and energy. It’s not about pictures anymore. It’s about self-promotion, fake news and clickbaits. It’s about faking a perfect life, sometimes so distant from the truth. And it says a lot about what we, as a society, have become.
And when they started blocking news profiles in Canada, I decided it was time to leave. So I suspended my account instead of deleting it because I planned on moving all the content from there to my blog.
One year later, and I haven’t done that. Obvs! But last week, in one of our water cooler channels on Slack, a colleague mentioned he had done the same (although with an unwanted side effect), and I decided to start working on my “From Insta to Blog” migration.
I won’t do it automatically. Doing it manually will give me an excuse to post here for a long time. Plus I don’t actually need to write anything, so it’s a no brainer.
I still have my Tumblr and BlueSky accounts, although I don’t use them. I think this will be my first post ever on BlueSky because I just connected the blog with my account. For now I will keep both.
The Instagram posts will leave here. Gallery style.
I’ll start with the very first post on my Instagram feed from July 2013. It was probably not my first post. Instagram was available for Android in 2012 and I had it from the beginning. But I remember deleting a bunch of pics when I decided I wasn’t gonna use the account to post personal pictures.

This is Bella. She was my friend’s dog and I used to dog sit for him a lot. She was an amazing, dog.
