During the month of January, I will be posting (tentatively) one post every day as part of the #bloganuary challenge
Sorry, not going with the prompt today. I also figured out I mixed up the days/prompts, so I will skip it today and talk about something else.
One of the million perks of working for a distributed company is the fact that I get to choose where I am going to work and WHO I am going to work with.
Most of the time I just work from home because I’m too lazy, I love my cozy place and I’m too lazy (have I said that twice???). Not having to commute is another blessing. BUT, sometimes I feel like working from a different place or meeting colleagues/friends to work together.
The week started with a not-so-fun commute that took 5.5 hours to get to Toronto when it should have taken 1.5. Big accident, road closure and all that. But I finally got there and met with Sam at a really nice co-working space close to Yorkdale mall called The Collective Workspace. What a nice, comfy, well-designed place. Nice coffee too.

We found this place using the FlexDay app. You can book Co-working day passes for CAD$ 25.00. You can also pay a monthly fee. The places I’ve tried so far using the app are pretty great. It works in Canada only, but if you want to try similar apps, Remoteverse made a list of the best apps to find a co-working space in 2022.
From there we headed to Moxie’s for our localmattician dinner #1. It was really great to meet some new colleagues and see some I hadn’t seen in ages.

Thursday I worked from Sam’s place and then it was happy hour time with some of the best people I have in my life. We used to work together at BMO and see each other every day. So I miss them a lot, but I am glad we are still in each other’s lives.

On Friday Sam and I went to Oakville to co-work since we had localmattician dinner #2 there later that day.
This time we went to the Staples co-working space, also booked through the Flexday app. Although we had a bit of trouble getting in, the place looks amazing and we got a lot of work done.

After work, we went to Tin Cup to meet with some other amazing co-workers.

It was a great week that ended the best way possible with some awesome board games day with friends in Toronto

After this week I have been thinking more about trying to work from a different place at least once a week. There are no co-working spaces where I live, but we have Starbucks and other coffee places that would be a good fit for that, I guess. Although, I’m going away in two weeks for two months and by the time I get back I will be in the middle of my sabbatical, so that will probably have to wait until June. We’ll see how it goes.
